KENNESAW, Ga. — Louisiana Tech used a three-hit complete game shutout in the circle from Allie Floyd and three-run home run from Reagan Marchant to blank Kennesaw State 4-0 in the series opener on Thursday night at Bailey Park.
The win moves LA Tech to 26-18 (12-7 CUSA).
Floyd made her 22nd start of the season and picked up her 19th win after going the distance and limiting the Owls to just three hits across 7.0 innings. She limited KSU to two singles and one double, while striking out three and walking two.
Marchant led the Bulldogs with two hits and two RBI, while Allie Furr also had a two-hit performance. Alexis Gilio added one hit, while Gilio, Furr and Claire Raley all scored a run. Both of Marchant’s hits went for extra bases as she hit a double in addition to her three-run home run.
KSU’s Emma Friedel started in the circle as the lengthy right-hander struck out 10 Bulldog batters and allowed just five hits in 7.0 innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A pitchers dual through the first five innings, the Bulldogs got the scoring started in the top of the sixth as they plated all four runs in the inning. The Bulldogs managed to leave four runners on base through the first five innings, including two in scoring position.
Furr singled up the middle to start the sixth and stole second before advancing to third on an infield single from Gilio. Gilio stole second, but it would not matter as Marchant cleared the bases with her 13th big fly of the season.
The South Carolina transfer is now tied with current assistant coach Madie Green and Kylie Bassett for the third most home runs in a single season in program history with 13. Her 13 home runs are the most by a Louisiana Tech sophomore in a single season.
The Bulldogs added one more run in the sixth as Raley drew a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and came around to score on a throwing error by the KSU catcher.
