Couple arrested on cruelty to juvenile charge

DOYLINE — A Doyline couple has been arrested after the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office reportedly received a call that an infant was living in an unfit environment.

Matthew Justin Jeter, 24, of the 300 block of Watson Street, was arrested for cruelty to juveniles. His bond was set at $5,000.

Marena A. Burroughs, 23, of the same address, was arrested for cruelty to juveniles, and her bond was also set at $5,000.

According to sheriff’s officials, Capt. Robert Hayden and Deputy Wade Wells responded to the call at the Watson Street address. Upon arrival, contact was made with the homeowner, Jeter’s mother, and with Burroughs, who was behind the home with the infant.

Hayden and Wells went inside the residence and discovered garbage strewn throughout the entire residence, along with clothing and other household items, according to reports.

Roaches infested the home and when they opened the refrigerator, they discovered rotted food with a large amount of dead maggots, the police report continues.

The home was in disrepair and officers determined the house to be unfit for human habitation, reports indicate.

Jeter and Burroughs were taken into custody and placed under arrest.

Arresting officers were Hayden, Wells and Sgt. Teresa Rogers.
