A Minden man who crashed his car was arrested for driving under the influence.

Deputies were dispatched to Penal Farm Road near White Sands Road Sunday after receiving a call of a one-vehicle rollover crash.

At the scene, deputy Marshall Merritt made contact with the driver, David Thompson, 26, who said he swerved to miss either a deer or opossum.

Thompson later told deputies Merritt, Chase Wimberly and Lt. Wade Wells he crashed because he was impaired from smoking synthetic marijuana, according to the arrest affidavit.

He then failed a field sobriety test, before being transported to patrol office to submit a urine sample.

Thompson, of the 3100 block of Dorcheat Road, was charged with careless operation and second offense driving while intoxicated and booked into Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
