Nancy Janette Ashley was born August 9, 1965, in Shreveport to the late Turner Ashley and Fannie Owens Ashley.
She attended the Ringgold High School Complex and was a graduate of the Class of 1983.
Nancy joined the Carter Chapel CME Church at an early age.
In 1981, Nancy married John Taylor. To this union, two children were born Kenyatta (KeKe) and Kenshundria (Muff).
In December of 1987, Nancy received her Medical Clerk Certificate from Draughn Business College in Shreveport.
After moving to Dallas, Texas in 1993, Nancy met and married Minister Rossie L. Gaiter II. To this union, a son was born, Rossie L. Gaiter III.
Nancy joined Trinity Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Ronnie Washington Sr. and became a licensed and ordained minister in 1994.
In 1999, Nancy received her massage therapist license. There was nothing Nancy set out to do that she did not accomplish. She was an over achiever.
Later in life, Nancy met and married Michael Thompson. Nancy joined Michael as a member of Faith Christian Center under the leadership of Pastor Gene and Sue Lingerfelt. Nancy assisted with the youth, was a choir member and worked with many ministries of the church. She loved doing the Will of God.
On Thursday night, Feb. 5, God’s angels gathered and called the name Nancy Thompson to join his precious children in the mighty Kingdom of Heaven.
She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Fannie Owens Ashley of Heflin; two daughters, Kenyeatta Sorrells (Jimmy Sr.) of Dallas, Texas and Kenshundria Bowers of Fort Worth, Texas; son, Rossie Gaiter III of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister, Stephanie McKinsey of Heflin; two brothers, Timothy Ashley (Quintly) of Fort Worth, Texas and Tommy Williams (Lavina) of Heflin; five grandchildren, O’Ronn Moore, Jensis Sorrells, Ty’Vaina, Eric Bowers and Jimmy Sorrells Jr.; a very close friend, Letitia Curd; special friends, Art and Mona Durham and Robin Hammonds; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and her Christian Faith family.
Celebration of life services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, at Springhill CME Church, Ringgold, with Minister Rodney Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Coleman Cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Kennon’s Mortuary. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 13 in Kennon’s Mortuary Chapel.
