Faith & Security: Minden to host church safety seminar

by Amber McDown

The City of Minden, in partnership with law enforcement officials, will host a free seminar on April 3 to help churches develop security and crisis response teams. The event, titled “Faith & Security: Protecting the Flock,” will take place at 5:30 PM at the Minden Civic Center.

The initiative, led by Chief Jared McIver, District Attorney Schuyler Marvin, and Mayor Nick Cox, aims to equip faith-based organizations with strategies to enhance safety and preparedness. The event will cover topics such as firearms, restraints, medical response, behavioral cues, and surveillance.

“Churches should be prepared for the worst, yet expect the best, so their congregations can worship and feel safe while doing so,” Cox said.

McIver, a law enforcement veteran with nearly three decades of experience, will lead discussions on security measures alongside other officials. Marvin emphasized the role of law enforcement partnerships in protecting faith communities.

The event is free to attend, but RSVPs are encouraged to ensure adequate accommodations. Interested attendees can RSVP by emailing [email protected] or [email protected].
