Florida man arrested for domestic abuse after hotel altercation

by Minden Press-Herald

A Florida man was arrested in the early hours of June 21 following an altercation at a Minden hotel that left another man with a broken nose.

Minden police officers were dispatched around 12:31 AM to the Exacta Inn on Sibley Road in reference to a subject who may have sustained a serious injury. Upon arrival at the room, officers observed a large amount of blood just inside the doorway and a man later identified as Troy Altman exiting the bathroom with a towel held to his bleeding nose.

Emergency services were contacted, and all individuals present were separated for interviews. Initially, both Troy Altman and other parties stated that he had fallen off a bed. However, statements later changed to indicate a physical altercation had occurred between Troy and his father, Eric Altman, 54.

According to statements made to police, the family was traveling from Florida to attend a graduation from Army basic training and had stopped for the night in Minden. Witnesses indicated there had been ongoing tension between the two men throughout the day, which escalated into a confrontation.

Troy Altman told officers he had been struck three times in the face by his father during an argument, which reportedly involved references to his girlfriend. Officers observed visible swelling on the back of his head and profuse bleeding from his nose. EMS confirmed that his nose was broken, though he declined ambulance transport, stating his mother would take him to the hospital.

Eric Altman was taken into custody on a charge of domestic abuse battery with serious bodily injury. He was transported to the Minden Police Department for booking and later to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center after failing to post bond.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
