Fundraiser supports Minden Police Special Response Team equipment needs

by Amber McDown

A charitable fundraiser was organized on Friday, August 25th, featuring the sale of pulled pork and hamburger plates at Miller Quarters park in support of the Special Response Team (SRT) of the Minden Police Department

The event aimed to amass funds to provide the SRT with essential equipment crucial for their effective and safe execution of duties. The Special Response Team undertakes critical assignments, comparable to those of a SWAT team, encompassing high-stakes search and narcotics warrants, in addition to their response to major criminal incidents.

“They run all the high-risk search warrants and narcotics warrants,” said Narcotics Sgt. Shane Griffith. “If we have a major crime, they’ll run all of that. We’re trying to get our guys outfitted with up-to-date equipment.”

This marks the second significant fundraising effort for the SRT this month. The ongoing “30 Guns in 30 Days” initiative, set to conclude at the end of August, has also garnered notable success. Minden Police Chief Jared McIver expressed optimism regarding the fundraising outcomes, stating, “The fundraisers have been going really well. I hope that we’ll make enough to get each team member equipped with everything they need.”

The Minden Police Department extends gratitude to the considerable number of sponsors and dedicated volunteers whose invaluable contributions have played a pivotal role in realizing the success of this fundraising endeavor.
