The annual Grilling on Main event is scheduled to take place in downtown Minden from June 7-8, drawing grillers from across the region to compete for awards in various barbecue categories.
The event includes a special division reserved for local grillers as well as one for the Little Grillers. Grilling on Main promises fun for the whole family with entertainment, a cornhole competition, a kids’ area, and a fireworks display.
Friday is when the grillers set up and begin cooking. There will be craft and food vendors on Main Street starting at 5 PM, live music starting at 7 PM, and a cornhole tournament starting at 7:30. The winners of the Little Griller contest will be announced at 8 PM followed by a fireworks display.
On Saturday, the fun starts when the vendors open and the tasting tickets go on sale at 10 AM. The kids’ area, which is across from City Hall, also opens at 10 AM. The People’s Choice tasting will begin at 11 AM, and there will be a DJ on the stage starting at that time as well. The winners will be announced at 5 PM.
The Barbecue Competitors Alliance (BCA) and local teams consist of four people. Winners will receive a monetary payout, with the total prize pool amounting to $10,000. Categories include brisket, chicken, and pork spareribs. All contestants must adhere to BCA guidelines and cook all three meats to qualify for the Grand Champion title.
The People’s Choice competition allows the voting public to taste samples from competitors for a fee, using wristbands for voting. The People’s Choice winner will receive a $1,000 payout. Participation in this competition is optional for all team entries.
