Harper raises awareness, funds

Miss Minden draws attention to philanthropy and local businesses

Hannah Harper may have been crowned Miss Minden in January, but her work is far from over.

Every Miss America Organization local titleholder works to raise money for the organization’s philanthropic partner, the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Beginning March 31, Harper will be taking this fundraising one step further by combining it with promotion of local businesses across Webster Parish.

“I am launching a campaign to visit and promote the glue that holds our precious communities together, the local Webster Parish businesses, while raising funds for CMN,” she said.

Harper’s first stop will be Family Fun Day at the new Springhill Recreational Complex March 31. In the following months she will also hold “Princess Parties” at local restaurants and “Meet Miss Minden” days at businesses across the parish. These events will generate funds for the Children’s Miracle Network while simultaneously drawing attention to the host businesses.

The closest CMN location is the Christus Shreveport-Bossier Health System in Shreveport. Every day, CMN hospitals treat an average of 16,000 children in the ER, 2,218 children with cancer, and more.

“CMN is important to me because it is important to share our blessings with others, leaving those we spend time with better for having been in our presence,” Harper said.

Harper explained what events like “Princess Parties” and “Meet Miss Minden” days will look like.

“Be on the lookout for Princess Parties soon, where your little girl can dress up and have a tea party with Miss Minden at local restaurants at both ends of the parish,” she said. “Also look for Meet Miss Minden Day, where I will be visiting local businesses and taking pictures with the products, customers, and business owners for social media promotion at both ends of the parish.”

The North Webster “Meet Miss Minden” day is scheduled for April 27. This event will be in conjunction with Springhill Main Street and the Springhill North-Webster Chamber of Commerce. A “Meet Miss Minden” day at Geaux Fresh in Minden is also being planned for a day in April to be announced.

Anyone interested in these events can stay informed of updates by following the “Miss Minden & Miss Minden’s Outstanding Teen” Facebook page.

“It is my deep desire to use the position of Miss Minden to bless our community as well as the sick and injured children who need the services of CMN hospitals,” Harper said.
