High school baseball: Five Webster Parish players named to LBCA All-Region 1 team

Five players from Webster Parish schools have been named to the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association All-Region 1 team.

Region 1 is comprised of schools in Webster, Caddo, Bossier, DeSoto and Sabine Parishes regardless of class.

Glenbrook placed three on the team — outfielder Maddox Mandino, pitcher Hayden Harmon and pitcher/third baseman Easton Sanders, who was selected as a utility player.

Also named to the first team were Minden outfielder Jakobe  Jackson and North Webster infielder Collin McKenzie.

Mandino and Harmon are recent graduates. Mandino is continuing his career at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Harmon is headed to Louisiana Tech.

Mandino batted batted .466 with 12 doubles, six triples, four home runs and 26 RBI.

Harmon was 8-1 with a 2.724 ERA. He had 83 strikeouts in 61 2/3 innings.

Sanders, a rising junior, was 6-1 with a 2.763 ERA. He had 54 strikeouts in 38 innings. 

Sanders also batted .354 with seven doubles, four home runs and 31 RBI.

Jackson, a rising senior, batted .415 with seven doubles, two triples, one home run and 24 RBI.

McKenzie, a recent graduate, batted .549. He had 50 hits, including 13 doubles and one triple, and 28 RBI.

McKenzie was also a pitcher. He went 4-3 with a 3.355 ERA and had 62 strikeouts in 56 1/3 innings.

Benton’s Sawyer Simmons, a 2023 graduate who helped the Tigers win the District 1-5A championship, was named the Pitcher of the Year.

North DeSoto’s Robert Ashley, a 2023 graduate who helped the Griffins reach the non-select Division II semifinals was named Hitter of the Year.
