High school baseball: Minden falls to Northwood; North Webster tops Doyline

The Minden Crimson Tide fell to the Northwood Falcons in a District 1-4A game Thursday at Minden.

The Falcons (16-2, 2-0), who have won 13 in a row, completed the two-game district sweep. 

The Tide got off to a good start with three runs in the bottom of the first. But Northwood answered with four in the second.

It remained 4-3 until the Falcons put five on the board in the top of the fifth. Four of those came with two outs.

Minden outhit Northwood 11-6. The Tide left the bases loaded in the fourth and left two on in the fifth. The Falcons took advantage of seven walks and four errors.

Jaxon Smith went 2-for-3 with a triple. Landyn Huddleston went 2-for-4 with a double. Hudson Brown and Bray Winston had two hits each.

Minden (12-8, 0-2) hosts Summerfield Friday at 5.

Elsewhere, North Webster defeated Doyline 15-5 in Springhill. Tyler Brown went 3-for-3 with a home run, double and three RBI (per Doyline scorebook). Nathan Bernard went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBI. Chandler McKenzie went 2-for-3.

Doyline’s Noah Spears had two RBI.

North Webster (6-6) is scheduled to visit Richwood in a District 1-3A game Friday at 7. Doyline (5-7) hosts Homer Friday at 5:30.
