High school baseball: Minden, Lakeside, Doyline win as regular season comes to an end

Minden, Lakeside and Doyline all won Monday as the regular season came to an end.

Minden swept Converse 10-9 and 2-0 at Minden. Lakeside got past Evangel Christian 9-7 at Evangel. Doyline swept Bossier 3-1 and 10-0 at Doyline.

The LHSAA is set to announce playoff pairings Tuesday. According to GeauxPreps.com, unless something changes all five parish teams will make the playoffs with Glenbrook receiving a first-round bye and Minden and Lakeside hosting first-round series.

At Minden, Jaxon Smith pitched a two-hitter in the second game with six strikeouts and no walks. 

Bryson Ranger went 2-for-3 with a double. Keegan Pope also went 2-for-3. Landon Brewer had a triple.

The Crimson Tide trailed 9-4 in the first game after Converse scored four runs in the top of the sixth. But Minden answered with four in the bottom of the inning then won it with two in the seventh.

Jaxon Smith led off the seventh with a walk. Topher Wilson reached on a error and Smith advanced to second. 

A single by Jacob Jefferson loaded the bases with one out. Bray Winston was hit by a pitch and Smith scored the tying run. Landyn Huddleston hit a fly ball to center. Wilson tagged up and scored the game-winner.

Brewer went 3-for-3 with a triple, double and three RBI. Huddleston had two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Winston had two RBI. He also pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief for the win.

Minden closed the regular season 19-14. 

At Evangel, Lakeside broke a 7-7 tie with two runs in the top of the sixth.

Noah Redding reached base on an error with one out. Peyton Gray and Brock Case had back-to-back singles. Redding scored on a passed ball. Gray scored on a sacrifice fly by Jon Jon Dick.

Gray went 3-for-3 with a double. Redding had a double and two RBI. Gage Williams had two RBI. Drake Chreene had a double.

Gray started and pitched four innings. Williams pitched the final three. The struck out four each.

Lakeside closed the regular season 18-14.

At Doyline, Noah Spears pitched a one-hitter in the five-inning first game. He struck out 13 of the 18 batters he faced with no walks.

Zach Normand went 2-for-3. Spears and James Dodge had doubles.

The Panthers scored two runs in the first inning in the second game then ended it with eight in the fourth.

Jonas Florence went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Ayden Moreno-Taule and Kenneth Anderson had two RBI each. Dodge had a double. Normand allowed three hits, struck out three and walked two.

Doyline closed the regular season 12-13.
