High school basketball: (Updated) Minden boys and girls win openers in Don Stahl Memorial Tournament

The Minden boys and girls teams both won first-round games in the Don Stahl Memorial Tournament with victories Wednesday at Lakeside.

The Crimson Tide opened their season with a 69-64 victory over Simsboro. The Lady Tiders improved to 1-1 with a 43-12 rout of Lincoln Prep.

Four players scored in double figures in the boys’ victory. Cameron Parker led the team with 15. Jaiden Franklin and Darnell Morris had 14 each. Carmelo Smith had 13.

Minden led 19-11 after the first quarter and 36-27 at the half. The Tide extended the lead to 57-45 going into the fourth.

Ahmad Smith led Simsboro (3-4) with 22. Jakakeb Modest added 15 and Jaylen Outley 10.

Minden faces Gibsland-Coleman (5-0) in the semifinals Thursday at 8 p.m.

The Lady Tiders face Homer, which defeated Gibsland-Coleman 57-51, in a quarterfinal game at 3:45 Thursday.

In another first-round boys game, North Webster fell to Camden-Fairview, Ark., 84-39. The Knights (0-2) play the Lakeside-Magnolia School of Excellence loser in the consolation semifinals at 6:30.

The North Webster girls fell to Simsboro 53-50 in the first round. The Lady Knights face Haynesville at 6:30 Thursday in a consolation quarterfinal game.

In another first-round girls game, North DeSoto defeated Haynesville 55-12.
