The Glenbrook Apaches defeated the Arcadia Hornets 27-6 in a District 1-1A game Friday night at home.
Glenbrook improved to 5-1 overall with its fourth straight victory and 3-0 in District 1-1A. The Apaches are tied for first with Haynesville (6-0, 3-0). Arcadia dropped to 2-4 and 1-2.
“We felt really good about out our plan, executed pretty well and were able to hold them off,” Glenbrook Head Coach Reagan Smith said.
Smith was impressed by the Hornets.
“They’re really, really athletic and they’re big,” he said. “They are impressive looking.”
Cade Vining led the Apaches with 121 yards rushing and two TDs. Vining also played every snap at middle linebacker.
“He is a throwback,” Smith said. “It’s almost hard to put into words the level of contribution he gives to a team. He is fearless. And he is the epitome of what we want to be.”
Seth Mangrum, the team’s leading rusher on the season, ran for 82 yards on 18 carries and caught a 27-yard pass.
Easton Sanders completed 8-of-19 passes for 97 yards. He also scored two rushing touchdowns.
Jackson Waller had four catches for 41 yards. Gage White had two for 19.
The Apaches led 14-6 at halftime and pulled away in the second.
“Early in the game we were able to formation really well and kind of mix it up a little bit run and pass,” Smith said. “And just found some things that worked and executed well.”
Glenbrook travels to Grambling Thursday to face Lincoln Prep. The Panthers (4-2, 2-1) defeated Ringgold 53-6 Friday night.
