High school golf: Minden’s McCormick enjoying success on Front 9 Tour

Minden’s Jackson McCormick has enjoyed a lot of success on the Front 9 Tour this season.

On Tuesday, McCormick finished third in the 9-hole tournament at Olde Oaks. He shot a 1-over-par 37, two strokes behind Airline’s Madden Sawrie.

That same day he was chosen as the Tour’s Player of the Week.

McCormick has won three times since Feb. 29.

He carded a 42 in the Feb. 9 match at Southern Trace, winning by two strokes over Lakeside’s Travis Randle.

McCormick shot a 3-over 39 in the March 7 9-hole match at Northwood Hills. North Webster’s Christian Whitlock was second, one stroke back. Randle tied for third at 42.

On March 12, he tied for first with Parkway’s Carson Keeler in the 18-hole match at The Golf Club at StoneBridge. Both shot 82.

McCormick’s teammate Garrett Simpson finished tied for third at 86 and the Tide won the team title. Other members of the team were Gavin Harris, Levi Rhode and Logan Lewis.

Last season, McCormick finished tied for 18th in the Division II state tournament,

The 2024 Division II tournament is April 29-30 at Cane Row in New Iberia.

Minden’s Hayes Branch won the junior varsity division in the Olde Oaks tournament. He shot a 38.

Lakeside’s Caden Doyle and Minden’s Ticker Sampson tied for 2nd, 11 strokes back.
