Madden, a prominent figure known for his prowess in business and impassioned advocacy, has left an undeniable impact that resonates both in the bounds of Louisiana and far beyond. Madden’s legacy is a tapestry woven with achievements that transcended geographical confines. A fervent champion of causes both within Louisiana and on a broader scale, he exemplified unwavering conviction, fearlessly advocating for his deeply held beliefs.

Notably, Madden’s dedication to nurturing education and skills development reverberated commendably throughout the region. His resolute support for Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College, a cause close to his heart, showcased a steadfast commitment to fostering learning opportunities. This dedication mirrored his unwavering support for other cherished causes, a testament to his character.

Born January 13, 1938, in Heflin, Louisiana, James D. Madden, 85, of Minden, transitioned from earthly life to his heavenly abode on August 7, 2023, in Shreveport, Louisiana. A devoted member of First Methodist Church in Minden and the proprietor of Madden Contracting Company, his presence and influence were widely felt.

Preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Johnye Mae Madden, daughter Sarah Margaret Madden Willis, and great-grandson Huck Hurley, he leaves behind a legacy carried forward by his surviving wife, Lyda Madden of Minden; sons, Doug Madden, David Madden, and John Madden, all of Minden; and a host of cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each a testament to his enduring impact.

The community at large stands united in honoring James D. Madden’s life, reflecting upon his accomplishments and far-reaching contributions that have enriched the tapestry of Minden, Louisiana, and extended far beyond.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of James Madden, a remarkable man and influential visionary in our community. He was not only a successful businessman, but also a respected figure who generously gave back. His advocacy for our Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College and his immeasurable other contributions will always be remembered. We will cherish his memory and work to carry on his impactful legacy. His friendship meant a lot to me personally, and his absence will be felt immensely. Mr. Madden was a pillar of our community, and his presence is truly irreplaceable. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this time of profound loss. May they find comfort and strength in the memories of his remarkable life and the impact he had on our community,” said Nick Cox, Mayor of Minden.

“Since I am new to our community, I did not have the honor or the privilege to know Mr. James

Madden that long. An elderly sage once wrote that if a person touches the life of but one

person, they have touched the heart of God. Many would agree that James Madden touched

the heart of God thousands of times in his life. His legacy of generosity and strength lives on in

the hearts and minds of so many. I have talked to a lot of people in the past couple of days

about their impressions of Mr. Madden. I learned that he was a respected and beloved figure in

this community and beyond. Respect cannot be purchased. It must be earned. James Madden

earned the respect of so many throughout his life’s Journey. I believe that his life continues

today with Jesus Christ his Savior who said, ‘I Am the resurrection and the life. Those who

believe in me, even though they die, will live and everyone who lives and believes in me will

never die.’ The French novelist Jean Paul Sartre said that life is a waste, a useless passion. That was not true for James Madden. He lived with vigor, love and joy. He will be missed but never forgotten,” said Rev. Steve Berger, Senior Pastor, First Methodist Church Minden.

“I knew Mr. Madden for most of my life as a result of having family connections from the same area of south Webster Parish.  However, I began to personally get to know him 7 years ago through our shared friendship with Dr. Earl Meador and a shared interest and appreciation for NLTCC.  I soon realized Mr. Madden valued education and its impact on our citizenry, and how much he deeply cared about the wellbeing of our community.  I respected him and held him in high regard. Sherri and I pray God’s comforting presence will continue to be with his family,” said Johnny Rowland, Jr., Superintendent of the Webster Parish School District.

“The passing of Mr. Madden is a huge loss for the Greater Minden community. Mr. Madden has been instrumental in the growth of businesses and industry in Webster Parish and beyond. His entrepreneurial spirit and innovative leadership have left an impact that will not be forgotten. We know his legacy will continue to be felt for years to come. Our heartfelt sympathies and prayers go out to Mrs. Lyda and his entire family,” said Stephanie Barnette, President/CEO of the Greater Minden Chamber.

“Mr. Madden was a pillar of the community who at all times supported law enforcement in the parish. He was a man of few words but when he spoke…people listened! On a personal level, he was always there for me, to listen and to provide good counsel. We will never know how much he did behind the scenes for those who were in need. He will truly be missed,” said Jason Parker, Webster Parish Sheriff.

James Madden’s tremendous impact on the local community is evident. With his time on this earth he left a legacy that will continue to be felt long after his passing.
