A Minden man was arrested on November 22 after police found him unconscious and intoxicated outside a local business.
According to a report from the Minden Police Department, an officer responded to a call from a concerned citizen about a man lying on the ground in front of Potter’s Garage in the 600 block of East Union Street. Upon arrival, the officer discovered the man, later identified as Victor Batton, 31, unconscious but breathing.
The officer woke Batton, who appeared disoriented and exhibited slurred speech. After frisking him for weapons, the officer detained Batton in handcuffs due to his visibly intoxicated state. Batton initially gave an incoherent response when asked for his date of birth, further indicating his impaired condition.
During the encounter, the officer found Batton leaning against the patrol vehicle for support, unable to stand on his own. A search of his belongings revealed two empty snack bags with synthetic marijuana residue on the packaging. Batton denied consuming any intoxicating substances and refused medical attention.
For his safety and that of the public, Batton was taken into custody and transported to the Minden Police Department for booking. He was later charged with appearing in an intoxicated condition.
Unable to post bond, Batton was subsequently transported to Bayou Correctional Center.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
