Karen’s Korner
Scams are everywhere these days. A good thing to remember is “never” give out any information over the phone, or to anyone who comes to your door. Reputable companies will not call and ask you questions concerning your personal information.
If you initiate the call, be sure that you know it is a reputable company. For example, if you call a number you find on a website, unless you know it is that particular company do not give out any information, because there are many who use a similar name to scam you on the web!
There are so many people out there who try and get information. Any information is too much. Sometimes, all they need is a name and a phone number to find out more about you than you want them to. Deal with people you can trust. Talk with your family and friends when hiring someone in your home for home repairs. Get a recommendation from someone you trust. It will save you a lot in the long run.
A good rule of thumb is to remember, “If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.” And another rule to remember is “When in doubt, don’t.”
There are so many false advertisements today. Again, search out those businesses that have a good consistent clientele. Businesses that have been around for a while are usually a good source for your needs.
Your bank, Social Security, or IRS, or any reputable organization will never ask you for your personal information.
BE AWARE!
