Lakeside loses on the road to Ouachita Christian, 59-33

by Minden Press-Herald

MONROE – The Lakeside Warriors hit the road Friday for a showdown with the Ouachita Christian School Eagles.

Lakeside was coming off a 48-6 beatdown of Northwood Lena looking to make it back-to-back wins, but the OCS team they faced on this night showed why they are one of the top teams in 1A, as Lakeside fell on the road by a score of 59-33.

“At the beginning of the game they jumped on us 21-0,” head coach Joey Pesses said. “The resiliancy of the team showed and we got back in it. We started slow again and it cost us. We calmed down and played pretty well, but we gave up a punt return and two interceptions for touchdowns and when you do that you’re pretty much done.”

The team managed to score points versus the 1A powerhouse. Lakeside has been improving steadily on that side of the ball and 33 points against OCS is nothing to be overlooked.

“I see a lot of improvement from the start of the season to now,” Pesses said. “At times our guys look great when we hold our blocks to the whistle. We’re still looking for that consistency and turnovers are hurting us.”
Offensively the Warriors were led by Darryl Moore who ran for 94 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Justin McCready had a touchdown as well on a 42 yard run and Ahmad Bishop added 35 yards on nine carries.

Thomas Lambert threw for 62 yards and a pair of interceptions, while justin McCready and Leo McCarter both threw touchdown passes on their only attempts of the game.

Frankie Chanler and Frankie Miles were each over 50 yards receiving with a touchdown to pace a larger than usual Lakeside passing attack.

Defensively, McCarter returned a interception 12 yards for a touchdown. Malik Jackson led the team in tackles (7) and Noah Ruff was next (6).

Frankie Chanler, Ahmad Bishop, Braydon Jones and Deandre Shehee all added four tackles.
