A Minden man who fled police didn’t get very far, but he racked up a string of charges in his wake.

Shawn David Rambin, 37, of the 1100 block of Pine Street, was arrested Monday, July 13, and charged with two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, theft over $1,500, illegal possession of stolen things, possession of Schedule IV CDS (clonazepam), possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm in the presence of a CDS, two counts of hit and run, open container, stop sign, two counts of no driver’s license, four counts of simple burglary, simple theft, two counts of possession of a legend drug and unauthorized entry. A hold was also placed on him by probation and parole. Bond was set at $217,250.

Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper says they’d gotten a call in reference to a hit and run where a vehicle struck a parked vehicle in the parking lot at Walmart and left the scene.

“Officers located the vehicle that was involved with the hit and run,” he said. “At that point in time, the suspect, Mr. Rambin, ran a stop sign at Pine and Marshall Streets, where he wrecked the vehicle, which turned out to be stolen.”

Rambin fled the scene on foot and ran inside a residence on Marshall Street where he did not have permission, trying to hide from police.

“He left that residence, stole a second vehicle taken from Marshall Street, and was eventually stopped by officers,” Cropper says. “In a search of Rambin, he had a loaded .22 caliber handgun in his pocket, four Schedule IV pills and a key to the first stolen vehicle. Mr. Rambin is a convicted felon as well.”

The subsequent investigation, he says, revealed that property inside the first stolen vehicle was previously stolen. Prior to the chase, Rambin allegedly burglarized a vehicle on Howell Street, and sold some property outside the residence. He also burglarized two more vehicles on Howell Street.

“One of the vehicles had a trailer on it,” he said.

Rambin was transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center for booking.
