A Minden man was arrested on multiple charges following a disturbance at a residence in the 600 block of Highway 531 on October 7. Officers were dispatched to the scene after a report of disruptive behavior inside the home.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the homeowner, who stated that his son, Steven Cooper, 43, had been causing a disturbance by yelling and cursing throughout the house. The behavior prompted the household to contact Minden police.
Officers made their way to Cooper’s room, where another family member was recording the incident. After knocking on Cooper’s door, he initially refused to open it, instructing officers to do so themselves. Upon entry, officers found Cooper seated behind a bed, only partially visible.
As officers engaged in conversation with Cooper, one officer moved around the bed for a better view. At this point, Cooper attempted to push the officer out of the way, suggesting they continue the discussion outside the room. During this encounter, the officer observed several clear glass tubes with burnt ends, commonly associated with methamphetamine use.
Cooper was immediately detained and read his Miranda rights. A subsequent search of the room led to the discovery of small clear bags with white residue, suspected to be methamphetamine, along with two glass pipes and a modified light bulb containing suspected drug residue.
Cooper was transported to the Minden Police Department and later charged with disturbing the peace, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. He is awaiting transfer to the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
