Preparations have begun for the 18th Annual Minden Mardi Gras Parade sponsored by Minden Main Street.
The parade is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Jan. 24, Catherine Hunt, parade chairperson said.
Family entertainment will include clowns, face painting and stilt walkers.
The parade covers a 3.3 mile route which begins at the intersection of Germantown Road and Elm Street and winds through the Minden Historic District, Downtown and back to Germantown Road.
The Johnson Brother’s carnival will open at 6 p.m. Friday with family specials and open at 10 a.m. Saturday.
On Saturday, families are encouraged to set up along the route throughout downtown and enjoy picnics and parties before the parade. Armband specials with unlimited riding will take place from noon until 4 p.m. and 6 until 9 p.m. Saturday. The cost per person is $20.
Families are invited to participate in the parade by preparing family floats. Organizations and churches are encouraged to also join in the fun by entering a float.
“Parade entrants are asked to pre-register by Jan. 15, through the Minden City Hall,” Hunt said.
Only those entries that register in advance will be permitted in the parade.

The Fasching Karneval and Parade ends the Fasching Fifth Season which began November 11, 2014.
