The Minden Press-Herald will reintroduce its digital paywall on Monday, June 2, 2025, as part of an updated subscription model aimed at sustaining professional, local journalism for the Minden and Webster Parish communities.
The paywall, which had been suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure full access to critical news, will once again limit the number of free articles available to non-subscribers. This decision comes as the Press-Herald works to adapt its business model to the changing media landscape while maintaining its commitment to providing reliable local news coverage.
“Our mission has always been to serve this community with timely, trustworthy information,” said David A. Specht Jr., President and CEO of Specht Newspapers, Inc. “Delivering that kind of journalism has real costs—reporters, editors, photographers, and the technology that supports our work. Reintroducing a digital paywall is a necessary step to ensure we can continue doing this important work for years to come.”
The new system is designed to be flexible. Casual or infrequent readers will still be able to access a limited number of articles each month at no charge through a free registration. Additionally, an “email-only” subscription level allows readers to receive curated newsletters and updates without requiring a full subscription.
The available subscription options include:
- Monthly Digital Subscription: Full online access with easy month-to-month billing.
- Annual Digital Subscription: Full access at a discounted yearly rate.
- Print + Digital Subscription: Home delivery of the newspaper plus unlimited digital access and exclusive e-edition benefits.
“The goal is simple: keep local news accessible, while giving our most loyal readers expanded options to stay connected,” Specht said.
