Minden woman, missing since 2006, identified as victim of serial killer

MARION COUNTY, Ohio — A 2006 victim of a serial killer was officially identified as a missing Minden woman Tuesday morning, according to published reports.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office confirmed remains which were found in 2007 as Dana Nicole Lowrey. Officials believe she was the victim of convicted serial killer Shawn Grate.

Lowrey was reported missing in May 2006. She was 23 years old at the time of her disappearance. She was found from information provided by Grate. Her remains were positively identified through familial DNA testing.

Lowrey was traveling across the country selling magazines at the time of her disappearance. Grate remembered that his victim’s name was “Dana” or “Diana” and that she sold magazines to his mother. The sheriff said he killed her after he claimed she failed to deliver the magazines, making him upset.

Grate was convicted for several murders after admitting to the crimes in 2016. The sheriff said he has confessed to killing five women.

In June 2018, Grate was convicted in an Ashland County courtroom for strangling 43-year-old Stacey Stanley and 29-year-old Elizabeth Griffith to death in 2016. He was sentenced to death for the murder of those two women, according to reports.
