The Lady Tiders were not necessarily rewarded for their fantastic finish to the season.
Despite winning their last eight games, including their second win over #1 Benton this season, the Lady Tiders remained the #3 team in the state and received the third seed in the LHSAA 4-A state playoff seeding.
Minden will play Northwood (Shreveport) on Thursday night at 6 p.m. at The Palace.
The Tiders won both games against the Lady Falcons handily this season.
Looking at the rest of the bracket, Minden has a great chance of getting far in the tournament.
Were they to beat Northwood, they would play West Ouachita or Huntington in the second round.
West Ouachita lost by 32 earlier in the season to the Benton team that Minden just beat, and Huntington hasn’t come close to beating Minden all season.
#6 DeRidder would most likely be the third-round opponent if Minden were to take care of business in the first two rounds. Minden beat DeRidder on Dec. 27 in the “Doc” Edwards Memorial tournament, 47-37.
Of course, it’s the playoffs, so anything could happen.
Benton took the top seed while Warren Easton (27-5) snagged the second seed.
Apparently Minden’s district threw off their strength of schedule.
What the Lady Tiders need to remember is that they have already beaten the “best” team in the state twice. Benton barely beat the Tiders on their home floor.
I hope we get a Benton-Minden state finals game.
Minden head coach Jacob Brown will not be too happy with me for looking so far ahead, but Minden’s aspirations should be high.
They have the talent, athleticism and pedigree to be state champions.
