Reynolds: Licenses a hot topic

by David Specht

State Rep. Gene Reynolds, D-Minden, said the Regular Session of the Legislature is moving along, but with few bills moving out of both houses.

“We still do not have a single Senate bill on the House floor, and only a handful of House bills have made it to the Senate floor,” Reynolds said Thursday morning via Facebook post.

However, there has been much debate about occupational licenses throughout the state.

“One of the big topics so far is the attempt to eliminate most occupational licenses,” Reynolds said. “I have received numerous emails on both sides of this issue, and my thoughts are if we eliminate the standards, it will not be long before the occupations will demand the standards be reinstated.”

Reynolds said present-day requirements were the results of requests by the industries themselves. But, he would defer to the will of the people. “I will vote your choice,” he said.
