Traffic stop leads to felony drug arrest in Minden

by Minden Press-Herald

A Homer man faces multiple felony and misdemeanor drug charges following a traffic stop early Friday morning, according to Minden Police.

At approximately 12:48 AM on May 30, a Minden Police officer observed a white Dodge Durango traveling north on LA 531 without license plate illumination and failing to maintain its lane. The vehicle reportedly crossed both the fog and center lines. The officer initiated a traffic stop after running the license plate through a law enforcement database and finding the vehicle was uninsured.

The driver, identified as Treylon Houston, 25, pulled into the Dixie Mart on LA 531. Upon contact, Houston exhibited nervous behavior and delayed responses to basic questions, police said. During the encounter, he admitted someone had smoked marijuana in the vehicle earlier that day and produced a burnt marijuana cigarette from the ashtray.

Officers observed an open container of alcohol in the front cupholder and a marijuana vapor device in Houston’s pocket. A field sobriety test was initiated but terminated when impairment by narcotics was suspected. Houston reportedly admitted to possessing a jar of natural marijuana inside the vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of five individually packaged bags of natural marijuana in the center console. Officers also found a bag containing five Xanax pills and five MDMA pills, a bag of synthetic marijuana in the driver’s door, cocaine residue in the passenger door, marijuana residue in a gallon bag behind the front passenger seat, and a digital scale, according to the report.

Houston was arrested and transported to the Minden Police Department, where evidence was processed and photographed. Field testing confirmed the presence of MDMA in the suspected pills. The marijuana was weighed at 18.77 grams, 8.35 grams, 5.77 grams, 3.21 grams, and 3.81 grams respectively. The synthetic marijuana weighed 3.51 grams.

He is expected to be transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center due to the felony charges. Police said a criminal history check found no prior offenses.

Charges against Houston include felony possession of Schedule I (natural marijuana) with intent to distribute, felony possession of Schedule I (MDMA), felony possession of Schedule IV (Xanax), misdemeanor possession of Schedule I (synthetic marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia, open container, improper lane usage, no license plate light, and obscured driver’s view.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
