Shreveport’s Ochsner LSU Health among honored facilities
Twelve Ochsner Health-owned and affiliated hospitals have been recognized for their commitment to improving patient outcomes for heart disease and stroke, as part of the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® (GWTG) program. Among them is Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport – Academic Medical Center, which earned several accolades for its high standards of care.
The GWTG initiative promotes research-based guidelines aimed at ensuring patients have access to lifesaving treatments. Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport achieved the GWTG Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award and was named to the Target Stroke Elite Honor Roll, as well as the Target Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. The hospital was also recognized with the GWTG Heart Failure Gold Plus Achievement Award, highlighting its efforts in managing heart failure through adherence to the most current care protocols.
Dr. Robert Hart, chief physician executive and president of Ochsner Clinic, emphasized the importance of timely intervention for stroke and heart conditions. “Care for stroke and cardiac events require immediate and precise intervention to save lives and enhance outcomes. At Ochsner Health, our teams understand that every second counts,” Hart said. “This recognition serves as a testament to the dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment of our team members to provide exceptional care to our community.”
The American Heart Association’s GWTG program recognizes hospitals across the nation for following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for treating conditions such as stroke, chest pain, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and Type 2 diabetes. The award levels—bronze, silver, and gold plus—are determined by how consistently hospitals meet the criteria for delivering high-quality care.
Other Ochsner-affiliated hospitals, such as Ochsner Baptist, Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, and Slidell Memorial Hospital, also received top honors for their achievements in stroke and Type 2 diabetes care. These hospitals, along with Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, play a crucial role in improving outcomes for patients experiencing the top causes of death in the United States—heart disease and stroke.
