A 13-year-old and an 8-year-old were struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Emerald Drive and Elm Street on Friday night, according to Minden Police Chief Jared McIver.
Several children were reportedly in the roadway after dark when the driver of a pickup truck swerved to avoid one group of children, then struck two others on the opposite side of the street who were not visible, McIver said.
The 13-year-old sustained serious injuries but is in stable condition, while the 8-year-old suffered minor injuries. Both were transported for medical treatment.
McIver said the driver was tested and showed no signs of impairment. Speeding is not suspected in the incident.
“This was an unfortunate accident that could have been avoided if kids were not playing in the street after dark,” McIver said.
