Unrestrained teen driver killed in Webster Parish crash

by David Specht

Webster Parish – On February 27, 2020, just before 1:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a one-vehicle, fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 157 near Hill Top Road.  This crash claimed the life of a Shongaloo teenager.

The initial investigation revealed a 2011 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by 17-year-old Wyatt Richardson, was traveling northbound on Louisiana Highway 157.  For reasons still under investigation, Richardson crossed the centerline, traveled off the left side of the highway, and struck a tree.

Richardson, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.  A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis.  The crash remains under investigation.

Buckling up is the most effective way to protect yourself in a crash.  Failure to take a few seconds to buckle up can have devastating consequences.  Louisiana law requires every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, to be properly restrained day or night.

In 2020, Troop G has investigated three fatal crashes resulting in three deaths.
