Warriors dominate Northwood on way to 48-6 victory

by Minden Press-Herald

The Lakseide Warriors returned home Friday night with hopes to rebound from their loss to Plain Dealing High School last week.

After jumping all over Northwood (Lena) on Friday, it’s safe to say that mission was accomplished.
The Warriors jumped out to an early lead and would never look back as they moved to 2-1 with a 48-6 pounding of the Northwood Gators.

It was exactly the type of performance head coach Joey Pesses was looking for from his team.

“Our resiliance over the past two weeks has been great,” Pesses said. “Last night was completely different than last week. We get a big hit and turnover on the opening kickoff and we turn that into a quick score. From there it was on.”

Pesses added that he and his staff did a better job at getting the team in the right positions to be successful.
“I was very pleased with the way our guys did their assignments,” Pesses said. “I said last week we had to do a better job as coaches at getting guys in the right spots, and I think we did.”

Also helpful for the Warriors, was the return of senior quarterback Thomas Lambert.

“It was big help as far as leadership on the field. Justin McCready filled in great for him, but its valuable to have an experienced leader out there.”

Defensively the Warriors were stifling Friday night, only allowing six points to the Gators.

“Northwood came out trying to duplicate what Plain Dealing did last week to us,” Pesses said. “Our guys didn’t panic at all. They looked very familiar with what they were trying to do against us, which is a testiment to the film study we did Monday at practice.”

The Warriors aren’t content with the blowout win. Coach Pesses has been doing this long enough to know that it’s all about sustaining success.

“I want to see us do this for multiple weeks,” Pesses said. “I saw a lot of things on film that we did correct this week, that we messed up last week. We filled our gaps, the line held their blocks longer. Overall, we’re real pleased with last night.”

Lakeside will be back in action Friday when they travel to Monroe for a match up with class 1A powerhouse Ouachita Christian at 7 p.m.
