The Webster Parish School Board recognized outstanding teachers, support personnel, and students from each school in the parish during its April 7 meeting at Harper Pathways to Excellence. The event culminated in the announcement of the 2024-25 Parish-level award recipients.
Each campus celebrated its own Teachers of the Year, Support Workers of the Year, and Students of the Year, followed by the announcement of parishwide honorees.
Individual School Honorees
At Phillips Elementary, Hannah Pevy was named Teacher of the Year, with Haley Perryman honored as Support Worker of the Year. Pevy would go on to win the overall WPSB Elementary Teacher of the Year award.
At Minden High School, Haynes Mandino was selected as Teacher of the Year. Copeland Cupples, a 12th-grade student, was honored as Student of the Year. Laura Davidson was named Support Worker of the Year.
At Richardson Elementary, Robin Herman received the Teacher of the Year award. Kaleb Stephens, a 5th-grade student, was named Student of the Year, and Debra Boyd received the Support Worker of the Year award.
Central Elementary recognized Melisa Adkins as Teacher of the Year, Lakyn Pate (5th grade) as Student of the Year, and Molly Griffith as Support Worker of the Year. Pate was later selected as the Parish Elementary Student of the Year.
At Browning Elementary, Myrhonda Turner was named Teacher of the Year and Amber Mallory received Support Worker of the Year honors.
Brown Upper Elementary awarded Cayla McKinsey (5th grade science/social studies) as Teacher of the Year, John Harris (5th grade) as Student of the Year, and London Brown (custodian) as Support Worker of the Year.
At North Webster High School, Wendy Markham was named Teacher of the Year, Kerianne Allen (12th grade) was Student of the Year, and Kamisha Barriere was recognized as Support Worker of the Year.
North Webster Junior High honored Marla Hanson as Teacher of the Year, Isabella “Bella” Deaver (8th grade) as Student of the Year, and Linda Beene as Support Worker of the Year.
At Webster Junior High, Tunisia Hampton was selected as Teacher of the Year. Turner Wilson (8th grade) was named Student of the Year and Vicki Eubanks was recognized as Support Worker of the Year. Hampton would go on to receive the overall WPSB Junior High Teacher of the Year award.
Jones Elementary named Hannah Barton as Teacher of the Year and Jessica Gavin as Support Worker of the Year.
Lakeside awarded Jeff Stewart as Junior High Teacher of the Year and Leslie Utley as High School Teacher of the Year. Students of the Year included Alyssa Chang (12th grade) and Ayauna Roberson (8th grade), with Jana Tharpe receiving Support Worker of the Year. Roberson was later honored as Parish Middle School Student of the Year. Utley was named WPSB High School Teacher of the Year.
Doyline School recognized Whitney Vollmer (elementary), Nancy Griffith (junior high), and Tiffany Trent (high school) as Teachers of the Year. Students of the Year were Peyton Handy (12th grade), Canaan Estes (8th grade), and Reagan Liggins (5th grade). Erika Fuller was named Support Worker of the Year. Handy would go on to be honored as the Parish High School Student of the Year.
At North Webster Lower Elementary, Robin Campbell was named Teacher of the Year and Joseph Smith was honored as Support Worker of the Year. Smith would go on to be named Parish Support Worker of the Year.
North Webster Upper Elementary recognized Raven Berry as Teacher of the Year, Dixie Deshotel (5th grade) as Student of the Year, and Anita Rushing as Support Worker of the Year.
Parishwide Honors
From the list of campus honorees, the school board named the following parish-level winners:
- Parish Elementary Student of the Year: Lakyn Pate (Central Elementary)
- Parish Middle School Student of the Year: Ayauna Roberson (Lakeside)
- Parish High School Student of the Year: Peyton Handy (Doyline)
- Parish Elementary Teacher of the Year: Hannah Pevy (Phillips Elementary)
- Parish Junior High Teacher of the Year: Tunisia Hampton (Webster Junior High)
- Parish High School Teacher of the Year: Leslie Utley (Lakeside)
- Parish Support Worker of the Year: Joseph Smith (North Webster Lower)
- Parish Elementary Principal of the Year: Cortney McCall
- Parish Middle School Principal of the Year: Gwenzetta Bradford
- Parish High School Principal of the Year: Ashley Hooter
The Webster Parish School Board will meet again on May 5 at 6 PM at the school board offices. The public is welcome to attend.
