Step into a world of wonder and discovery as Webster Parish Libraries presents Discovery Camp 2024! This summer, we invite you to join us on an exhilarating journey of exploration and learning, where every week features innovative STEM-inspired activities and captivating challenges designed to redefine how we embrace learning and discovery during the summer.
Our adventure begins with Science Week, a thrilling celebration of scientific inquiry and discovery. From June 10th to June 15th, participants of all ages are invited to dive headfirst into the fascinating world of science. Science Week sets the stage for a week-long exploration filled with engaging activities, programs, and demonstrations designed to ignite curiosity and inspire a love for scientific exploration. Following Science Week, participants will delve into the realm of technology from June 17th to June 22nd. As Technology Week draws to a close, Engineering Week takes center stage from June 24th to June 29th, and rounding out the Webster Parish Libraries – Discovery Camp 2024 lineup is Mathematics Week, which takes place from July 1st to July 6th.
At the heart of Science Week lies a special highlight: The LSU AgCenter of Webster and Claiborne Parishes will present the Germ Cave exhibit! Two presentations are scheduled during Science Week – one at your Minden library branch location on Tuesday, June 11th, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and one at your Springhill library branch location on Friday, June 14th from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. These are come and go events, and no registration is required.
The Germ Cave is an innovative educational tool that offers a unique blend of entertainment and enlightenment, captivating young minds and fostering a deeper appreciation for the wonders of science and microbiology. Participants are welcome to immerse themselves in the Germ Cave, where they’ll encounter glowing representations of bacteria, interactive displays demonstrating food safety principles, and engaging demonstrations highlighting the importance of proper handwashing techniques. From eye-opening high-five demonstrations to the essential four steps of food safety, there’s something for everyone to discover and enjoy.
As participants explore the Germ Cave exhibit, they’ll have the opportunity to receive faux germs with “GLO Germ/Glitterbug Lotion,” providing a visual representation of the unseen world of germs illuminated by LED lighting. This hands-on experience not only deepens their understanding of microbiology but also equips them with essential life skills that promote personal hygiene and food safety.
