Webster Parish man arrested on drug, resisting charges

by Minden Press-Herald

A Webster Parish man was arrested Friday evening after authorities found drugs in his vehicle and he allegedly resisted arrest.

According to the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a black SUV stopped in the middle of Old Arcadia Road near Highway 79 at approximately 9:30 PM on January 24. Upon arrival, a deputy located a black Jeep SUV in a ditch on the north side of Highway 79.

A man, identified as Sawyer Blair Harrison, 54, of Minden, was found slumped over and asleep in the driver’s seat with the vehicle still in drive and the engine running. The deputy woke Harrison and asked him to step out of the vehicle.

After performing standardized field sobriety tests, which did not indicate impairment, the deputy conducted a pat-down search. During the search, the deputy reportedly found a small clear baggie containing a crystal-like substance consistent with narcotics in Harrison’s front right pocket. Harrison was placed in handcuffs, advised of his Miranda rights, and escorted to a patrol unit.

While being detained, Harrison allegedly attempted to resist by trying to run away, falling to the ground, and kicking and rolling to evade officers. Additional deputies arrived to assist in restraining him and secured him in the backseat of a patrol vehicle.

A subsequent inventory of Harrison’s vehicle, which was towed from the scene, revealed five and a half pills. Four pills were located under the radio, while one and a half were found in a pill bottle in the center console, authorities said.

Harrison was transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center and booked on charges of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of a legend drug, and resisting an officer.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
