The Webster Parish Police Jury Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is organizing a Disaster Preparedness Event on September 6 at the Community Activities Center Building, 301 W. Church Street in Springhill, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
The event will provide the public with an opportunity to learn how to prepare for various types of emergencies. Representatives from several agencies, including the Webster Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP), the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, National Weather Service Shreveport, Pafford EMS, Springhill Fire Department, Springhill Medical Center, Springhill Police Department, Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Webster Parish 9-1-1, will be present to offer guidance and answer questions.
Topics to be covered include disaster preparedness for floods and tornadoes, evacuation plans and disaster kits, fire safety and the importance of smoke detectors, key information for dialing 9-1-1, and how to properly mark residences or businesses to assist emergency responders.
“This event will ensure that our citizens have the knowledge and skills to prepare for various types of emergencies,” said Brian Williams, director of the Webster Parish Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness.
A second event is planned for south Webster Parish, with details to be announced once finalized.
