Tuesday evening after being involved in a pursuit, Webster Parish Sheriffs Office BDCC Deputy and Cotton Valley Police Officer Trey Copeland passed away. The cause of death is unknown at this time.
“At approximately 6:29 pm, WPSO Deputy C. Barton initiated a pursuit of a motorcycle driven by Johnny Jenkins, W/M, of 318 East St, Cotton Valley, on U.S. 371 south of Sarepta. The pursuit ended at 6:48 pm when the driver/ motorcycle crashed near the XTO plant in Cotton Valley,” the WPSO stated.
“Deputy/Officer Copeland was working in the capacity of a Cotton Valley Officer at the time “assisted” in the pursuit. After the pursuit was over and the suspect of the motorcycle was in custody, Officer Copeland indicated he was not feeling well. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. Cause of death is unknown at this time.”
Webster Parish Sheriff Jason Parker stated, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He was a loyal and dedicated servant to the citizens of Webster Parish. He will truly be missed.”
