by Russell Hedges

A very successful Minden Dixie Youth Softball season came to an end Tuesday.

Three Minden All-Star teams completed play in their respective World Series tournaments with third-place finishes after reaching the final four.

At the Angels X-Play (10U) tournament in Prince George, Va., Minden fell to Alabama in the semifinals.

At the Darlings (8U) tournament also in Prince George, Minden lost a 1-0 heartbreaker to South Carolina. Both of Minden’s losses in the tournament were by one run. Minden allowed only eight runs in four games with some outstanding pitching performances.

At the SweeTees X-Play (6U) tournament in Monroe, Minden fell to Montgomery, Ala., in the semifinals.

At the Ponytails X-Play (12U) tournament earlier this month in Prince George, Minden went 1-2. After falling to Virginia in its opener, Minden defeated Tennessee 5-2 before suffering a tough 4-3 loss to host Prince George.

The Minden Angels, Darlings and Ponytails all won their respective state tournaments. The SweeTees finished runner-up in theirs.

The Minden 7U Diamond Youth Baseball All-Stars also finished runner-up in their state tournament and advanced to the World Series.

It was the first time in Minden Dixie history that five teams made it to World Series tournaments, according to a post on the Minden Recreation Center website.
