The Young Women’s Service Club is hosting its first Back to School Bash this Saturday from 10-12 pm at Victory Park. There will be bounce houses, hot dogs, chips, and drinks for the entire family. DaqShaq will be set up selling snow cones.

“We will be handing out 100 backpacks filled with school supplies for the upcoming year. We also have additional supplies to hand out,” said YWSC President Elizabeth Campbell.

The Minden Civitans have also donated 5 brand-new bikes to be given as raffle prizes. Local businesses have also stepped up to provide other amenities for the event, including bounce houses provided by B1 Bank, hot dogs provided by Hugh Wood Catering and Specialty Meats, cooked on a new grill from Ace Hardware Minden with chips provided by Laura Horton State Farm Agent. Ice-cold soft drinks, water, and juice boxes will be provided by Carter Credit Union.

The 100 filled book sacks that will be given out have been provided by the following sponsors, Debbie Callender, Realtor for LaState Realty, Rachel Finklea and Dacota Finklea of Goose Hill Farm, Home Federal Bank Minden, Carroway Pre-owned, and A.J. Price Tires.

“Throughout the past 2 weeks, we have also run an online form where local teachers can submit their classroom wish lists. We will draw 5 names at the main event on Saturday who will get some of their wishlist dreams,” said Campbell.

The YWSC has bins set up at the following locations in case anyone wants to drop off any donations, including Laura Horton – State Farm, B1 Bank, All Hours Fitness, and Carter Credit Union.

“Our goal for this event is to help and try to alleviate some of the financial pressures going back to school can cause! We hope that the entire family will come out and spend the morning with us and help get the kids amped up and ready for school,” said Campbell.
