The 25th annual Minden Holiday Classic tipped off Wednesday night with 15 games at three venues across the city of Minden.
Here are the results, starting with our parish teams and concluding with final scores of other contests.
Minden Lady Tiders
The Minden Lady Tiders played in the nightcap game at The Palace, blowing out the Doyline Lady Panthers by an eye-popping margin, 58-3.
The Lady Tiders never trailed and never had to break a sweat on their way to a spot in the winner’s bracket.
Minden will take on the winner of Homer/Montgomery on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Lakeside Warriors
The Lakeside Warriors took on Homer in the 6:10 p.m. game at The Palace.
The Warriors came out hot, getting some sharp shooting from both Jalen Gould and Djimon Lard.
Lakeside built a large, halftime lead and never felt threatened on their way to a 64-43 victory.
“It was a pretty close game in the first quarter,” Lakeside head coach Jason Gould said. “We led 17-12 at the end of that quarter, but the second quarter was the back-breaker.”
The Warriors outscored the Pelicans 19-2 in the second quarter, stretching their halftime advantage to 36-14.
The second half was merely a formality, as Lakeside cruised to the winner’s bracket.
“I was very pleased,” Gould said. “These kind of wins won’t come often for us this year, so it was nice for our kids to be able to put one away early. We made 10 3-pointers tonight in a great shooting effort.”
Jalen Gould led the Warriors with 22 points. Gould knocked down five 3-pointers for the night as he continues his red-hot 2015 season. Lard had 13 points in support, Monty Willis scored 12 points and Andre Loften added six points off the bench.
Lakeside will take on Red River tonight at 7:30 in The Palace for what should be an intense second-round game.
