Connor Lee, a freshman band member at Minden High School, has been selected to serve as First Chair Tenor Saxophone for the 2015-16 District VIII Symphonic Band.
Lee is son of Kolby and Terri Lee, and a member of the Minden High School Band under the direction of Mr. Curtis Mills. He will participate in the honor band rehearsals and concert showcase during January.
In all, hundreds of students from district VIII, which encompasses Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, DeSoto and Webster parishes, auditioned for the 2016 Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band ensembles. Top performers were selected for the highly competitive honor.
The selection process is done blindly — with students providing an on-site audition with band directors selecting the best performers without knowing who the students are or what schools they attend. This audition is also done to determine chair placement — with First Chair being the best of the best.
Along with Lee, Minden High School sent four additional students Dec. 11 auditions which were held at Parkway High School; Tia Ambrose (Fr.) – Melodic Percussion, Kelly Ambrose (Jr.) – Clarinet, Amayah Joseph (Fr.) – Clarinet, and Keeyon Ward (Jr.) – Baritone.
In the spring semester, students from the Minden High School Band will also participate in both the solo and ensemble and district VIII Assessment Festivals.
