Well…Spring has sprung, and summer is quickly approaching. Those hot humid days are just around the corner, and we need to remember to prepare for those lazy hazy days of summer. So, for the next couple of weeks, we are going to provide, “Hints to Help With The Heat.” There are several really good resources that will prepare us. For example, we need to educate ourselves to know exactly what to look for!

The National Weather Service tells us how to recognize WARNINGS VS. WATCHES:

Excessive heat poses a significant risk to people’s health, including heat stroke and heat exhaustion, which can result in death. Excessive heat generally means unusually hot temperatures, commonly combined with oppressive humidity, that persists for two or more days. However, specific guidelines vary across the country and may be refined through work with local and state health professionals.

Extreme Heat Warning

Take Action! An Extreme Heat Warning is issued when extremely dangerous heat conditions are expected or occurring.  Avoid outdoor activities, especially during the heat of the day. If you must be outside, be sure to drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the shade.

Extreme Heat Watch

Be Prepared! An Extreme Heat Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for an extreme heat event, but its occurrence and timing is still uncertain. Plan to suspend all major outdoor activities if a warning is issued.

Heat Advisory—Take Action!

A Heat Advisory is issued for dangerous heat conditions that are not expected to reach warning criteria. Consider postponing or rescheduling outdoor activities, especially during the heat of the day.
