Cycling and running event to support local trails, youth bike team
The inaugural Kisatchie Crusher Gravel & Run, hosted by local cycling group Bike Minden, is set to take place at Caney Lakes Park in Minden on September 6, offering a range of events for both cyclists and runners.
The race will be held at 216 Caney Lake Park Road, with participants choosing between a 15-, 30-, or 60-mile gravel bike race or a 5K/10K run. Race organizers emphasized that participants should select one event only.
The gravel bike course will travel north of the park along the gravel roads of Kisatchie National Forest, consisting of approximately 75 percent gravel and 25 percent pavement. The 5K and 10K running routes will stay within Caney Lakes Park and include paved roads and a flat wooden bridge.
“Experienced or first-timers are welcome,” organizers stated. “It can be a race or a ride. The main thing is to come and join in the fun.”
E-bikes are allowed, although they will not be eligible for top-three awards. Mountain bikes are also permitted, but organizers note the fastest times are typically achieved on gravel bikes.
The event will begin and end at the group pavilion area, which offers shade, an amphitheater, picnic tables, AC power, restrooms, showers, and a beach area with swimming. Food will be available for purchase, and non-racers are encouraged to attend and enjoy the festivities with family and friends.
All proceeds from the event will support Bike Minden’s trail maintenance and expansion efforts, as well as the formation of a youth mountain bike team.
Each registration includes a T-shirt and post-race meal. Custom awards will be given to the top three finishers in each category. Group lodging and camping options are available, with more details posted on Bike Minden’s Facebook page.
