Youth softball: Minden teams off to good starts in World Series tournaments

Minden All-Star teams have gotten off to good starts in Diamond Youth World Series Softball tournaments in Tioga.

The Minden 12U All-Stars defeated Mississippi (Columbia) 7-1 in its only game in pool play Thursday. They followed that with a  13-1 victory over Alabama (Headland) in the first round of double-elimination Friday.

Minden will play the Mississippi-Tennessee winner Saturday at 6 p.m.

The 10U All-Stars defeated Mississippi (Columbia) 4-1 in pool play Thursday. They downed Tennessee (Bellevue) 18-0 in the first round of double elimination Friday.

Minden faces the Tioga-Mississippi winner Saturday at 4.

The 8U All-Stars went 1-1 in pool play Thursday, defeating Alabama (Prattville) 7-2 and falling to Tennessee.

Minden fell to Mississippi in the first round of double elimination Friday. They bounced back with a 15-3 victory over Arkansas in an elimination game.

Minden faces Texas in an elimination game Saturday at noon.

All three Minden teams are representing Louisiana. As the host, Tioga automatically qualified in every division.

Sabine, the runner-up to Minden in the 8U state tournament, defeated Texas 8-6 in the first round Friday.
