Second arrest made in gang-related Stone Street shooting

by Minden Press-Herald

A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a gang-related shooting that occurred during a barbecue in Minden earlier this year.

Treveontae Walker, 19, was taken into custody on Friday, July 25, following a traffic stop on Interstate 20 eastbound near mile marker 49.

According to Minden Police, the stop was initiated after a black Jeep was observed traveling 88 miles per hour in a posted 70 MPH zone. Officers reported detecting a strong odor of marijuana from the vehicle and conducted a probable cause search. Two firearms were recovered during the search.

Walker, a passenger in the vehicle, was identified as having an active warrant for a burglary reported on February 16. He was arrested at the scene and transported for booking.

Through the ongoing investigation into an April 27 shooting at Stone and Young streets, detectives later identified Walker as one of four suspects who exited a silver Honda Accord and fired 53 rounds toward a crowd gathered outside a barbecue. One person was grazed by a bullet, and multiple homes and vehicles were damaged. The incident was captured on video, and tips from the public aided in identifying Walker as a second shooter.

On Saturday, July 26, a warrant was secured for Walker on four counts of attempted second-degree murder, one count of illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, two counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, and four counts of simple criminal damage to property.

Walker was booked into the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center with bond set at $1,140,000.

The investigation is ongoing as detectives continue efforts to identify the remaining two suspects.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
