Prayer in the Park draws large crowd for 10th annual gathering

A large crowd gathered in Academy Park August 9 for the 10th annual Prayer in the Park, joining elected officials, community leaders, and the reigning Miss Minden in a morning of worship, encouragement, and unity.

Organized by Michael and Chequella Walker, the event brought residents together to pray for students, parents, teachers, administrators, first responders, elected officials, and the community as the new school year begins.

Ursula Hullaby delivered a message to students, reminding them, “you are enough” and urging them to consider safety as more than physical protection. “Being safe means mentally and spiritually safe as well,” she said.

Musical guest John Gill Jr. performed “Trust In God,” with attendees joining in the chorus. Pastors Craig Williams and Gary Swanson led prayers for the well-being of children, educators, and community leaders, offering thanks for the opportunity to gather.

“There’s so much going on in the world today, that we need as much prayer as we can,” Michael Walker said.

The annual event began a decade ago as a way to unite the community in prayer at the start of the school year and continues to grow each year.
