The North Central Louisiana Operation Christmas Child (OCC) Shoebox Kickoff is scheduled for September 6 at First Baptist Church in Minden. The event will begin at 10 AM.
Organizers said the kickoff will offer resources and encouragement to help volunteers prepare for this year’s shoebox-packing season. The program will include packing information, updates about ongoing outreach and a guest speaker sharing about a recent trip overseas.
Jeanine Ford, who traveled to Romania on a Vision Trip, will share her experiences in distributing shoeboxes and participating in the graduation of children who completed The Greatest Journey, OCC’s discipleship program.
“This kickoff is a great way to be inspired and equipped for a successful packing season,” organizers said in the event flyer. “Come learn more with us about how to share the vision of OCC with your church or group and reach more children with your shoebox gifts.”
Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, encourages individuals, families, churches and community groups to fill shoeboxes with small toys, school supplies and hygiene items. Each shoebox is distributed to children around the world, paired with an opportunity to hear the Christian message.
The September 6 kickoff is open to the public and will also introduce attendees to their local OCC area team.
