A Doyline man was arrested Friday after leading a deputy on a pursuit in a side-by-side before colliding with a patrol vehicle, according to the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office.
August 29, a deputy attempted to stop a blue and black Polaris side-by-side traveling east on Boothville Cutoff. Authorities said the driver, later identified as 28-year-old Byron Meacham, ignored lights and sirens, turned off his vehicle’s lights, and accelerated to about 60 mph.
Deputies reported Meacham ran a stop sign, cut through multiple yards, and continued attempting to flee. The chase ended when a deputy blocked his path with a patrol unit and Meacham’s vehicle collided with it.
Meacham was arrested at the scene, advised of his rights, and transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center. He was booked on charges of operating a side-by-side on the roadway, aggravated flight, and aggravated assault with a vehicle on an officer.
Deputies said Meacham later admitted he did not know why he ran and acknowledged trying to continue fleeing after the collision.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
