High school football: Lakeside pulls away in second half in win over Arcadia

by Russell Hedges

The Lakeside Warriors pulled away in the second half for a 30-14 victory over the Arcadia Hornets in their season opener Friday night in Sibley.

Lakeside didn’t take the lead until late in the first half on a pass from Brock Case to Eric Jones of about 30 yards.

Kentravion Miller’s two-point conversion run gave the Warriors an 8-7 lead going into the locker room.

Lakeside dominated the second half. Case completed a short touchdown pass to Noah Redding.

Miller scored a rushing touchdown and another two-point conversion run. Freshman Jaden Clark ran about 15 yards for a TD.

After taking the early lead, Arcadia didn’t score again until 13 seconds remained in the game.

Lakeside was unable to get anything going in the first half because of a slew of turnovers, Head Coach John Ware said.

“We turned the ball over in the first half about five times,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of young kids and that was their first experience getting under the Friday night lights. They kind of got big-eyed for a little while but they settled down.”

Ware had to replace 10 seniors off last year’s 9-3 squad.

Lakeside travels to Olla Friday to play LaSalle. The Tigers opened their season with a 48-6 loss to Delta Charter.
