Outdoor enthusiasts are invited to enjoy a scenic morning on the water during the annual Paddle Into Fall on Bayou Dorcheat, set for Saturday, October 18, beginning at the Webster Parish Public Boat Launch on Highway 164.
Participants are encouraged to bring a kayak, canoe, or pirogue for the out-and-back paddle, which will begin and end at the Sibley Boat Launch. The route direction — north or south — will be determined that morning based on wind and current conditions, with guidance from the Bayou Chapter of the Ozark Society.
Registration will take place from 8 to 8:45 AM, followed by a safety briefing at 8:45 AM. Paddlers are expected to be in the water by 9 AM. A sweep to guide paddlers back toward Sibley will begin at 10:30 AM.
The total distance will range between 4 and 6 miles, with a communal turn-around after approximately 60 to 90 minutes to allow beginners and families to paddle at a comfortable pace. The event is designed for all skill levels.
After the paddle, participants can enjoy a fish fry, live music, and local vendors at the boat launch from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. Portable restrooms will be available on-site.
Kayak rentals are available from Pleasure Point Bayou Dorcheat Rentals, which offers advance reservations with on-site pickup in Sibley, and Ouachita Paddle & Provisions in Monroe, which provides off-site rentals for pickup and return.
