Karen’s Korner: Let laughter be your companion

by Minden Press-Herald

Karen’s Korner

Just because we are getting older, it doesn’t mean we cannot have a sense of humor. In fact, it is truly the time to find laughter in the circumstances and experiences that come with age. These two poems about aging capture the truth of embracing life’s humorous moments and remind us that “Age is just a number,” according to Joan Collins.

So, as you navigate your golden years, let laughter be your companion and enjoy the journey with a smile on your face.

The perks of being 65, they’re quite the treat,

Like senior discounts that can’t be beat.

I’ll proudly flash my ID, with a mischievous grin,

For saving a few bucks is a victory I’ll always win.

I’ve earned my right to take life slow,

Enjoying retirement, wherever I may go.

From bingo nights to early bird specials,

Being 65 brings a range of delights that are quite special.

So, embrace the laughter, embrace the gray,

For being 65 is a reason to celebrate every day.

With humor as your guide, you’ll find joy galore,

And the golden years will be ones to adore.

(Jane Seskin)

Old

I’m too young to be this old

It is like catching a cold

It happens before you know

The years fly by and then you’re old.

But life is to be lived each day

Never stop learning

Keep busy

Find a laugh

And life will be the best.
